South Shore Women’s Business Network Educational Foundation accepting scholarship applications

The South Shore Women’s Business Network Educational Foundation is accepting applications for its annual Marion Overhiser Memorial Scholarship.

In June, the foundation will award several $1,000 scholarships to women age 35 and over who are making a career change and require education or training for their new careers. Past scholarship recipients have included a 38-year-old mother who received a degree in special education, and a single mother and domestic abuse survivor who transitioned from stocking shelves at a local department store to pursuing a college program in administrative information systems.

“Helping women achieve professional growth is at the core of the South Shore Women’s Business Network Educational Foundation,” said President Elizabeth Pineault, who noted that the foundation awarded five scholarships last year and hopes to award even more this year. “By providing support to mature women who are undergoing a career transition, we hope to help them accomplish their goals and achieve their dreams.”

Established in 1998, the scholarships honor past Network President Marion Overhiser, a former nurse who went back to school to study accounting while working full time and raising two children. She later became a founding partner of the CPA firm Overhiser & Dougherty.

Scholarship applications and eligibility requirements are available online at www.sswbnedfund.org/scholarships.htm. Applications must be received by 3 p.m. on May 2.
